Training Questions asked by
our customers (technical
questions below)
Q - Spray Control collars were designed for what type of
dogs?
A - For any dog.
Q - How big must a dog be to be trained with a spray
control collar?
A - The dog should weigh at least 8 pounds.
Q - What is the longest period of time that a dog should
wear the spray control collar?
A - Eight consecutive hours.
Q - What is the dummy collar effect?
A - This is a procedure where the collar is eliminated as a factor in
learning. In other words, the dog wears the collar without it being
activated for 3-5 days. This way the dog does not learn that the
collar causes the correction, but rather getting to close to the yard
boundary.
Q - Will the use of this collar hurt or injure a
dog?
A - Absolutely not. The correction is safe, painless and humane.
Q - Will the spray effect my dog's sense of taste or
smell?
A - No, the spray is totally harmless.
Q - How will my dog first react to the spray?
A - Every dog's reaction is slightly different. Some yip or squeal.
This is why the owner should be present for the first spray
correction.
Q - How do you know that the spray does not hurt my
dog?
A - For various reasons including the fact that the HSUS has reviewed
and approved the collar.
Q - How do I prevent my dog from becoming fearful of
wearing the collar?
A - By creating the dummy collar effect.
Q - How do I prevent one dog from chewing on the collar of
another dog?
A - If you see one dog chewing on the other dog's collar - pull him
off and redirect him to "sit" and "stay". Also, a daily spraying of
lysol on the dog's collar will help repel the other dog.
Q - Once my dog is trained, does he have to wear the
collar the rest of his life?
A - Probably not. He may have to wear it as a reminder from time to
time.
Q - Can my dog wear this collar when he is left home
alone?
A - Yes, but only after you have observed him receiving and avoiding
the correction successfully.
Q - Can I attach a leash to this collar?
A - No. A leash should be attached to a separate collar. A leash
should never be attached to the receiver collar.
