InstallationQuestion: What are the basic steps of installation? Answer:
Question: When should I install my irrigation system? Answer: It makes no difference. New lawn installation will allow owners to HYDRO SEED rather than sod, at a cost savings of up to 50%. This amount can be invested in an irrigation system. Established lawn installation allows for more precise placement of spray heads to compensate for mature shrubbery, trees, patios, fences, gardens, etc.
Question: When is the best time to install? Answer: Systems may be installed anytime the ground is not frozen. Early spring or summer installation will ensure the protection of your lawn before the hot summer dry spells.
Question: Can I install a sprinkler system myself? Answer: In fact, we have step-by-step forms and procedures for self-installation. A working knowledge of electricity and plumbing hook-up is required. We can assist in layout and product selection. We are normally contracted to install the irrigation lines with our equipment. Package system pricing would apply for self-installation.
Question: Can I convert an existing manual system to an automatic electrical system? Answer: Yes. This is a very simple process. Most manual valves can be retrofitted with automatic solenoids or replaced entirely.
Question: We are building a new home. When should we contact you for a sprinkler system? Answer: We should be notified as soon as possible after construction begins. For obvious reasons, new construction planning provides for some cost saving benefits such as plumbing hook-up, time clock positioning, and conduit placement. Tubes or conduits can be placed under driveways and walks prior to paving. We also consult with the plumbing and electrical contractors for proper placement of valves and outlets. This will save time and money!
Question: Will my lawn be damaged during installation? Answer: Our equipment cuts the sod and pulls the pipe from head to head. Damage is minimal and scars will become unnoticeable in a short time.
Question: Can we have a system installed if we have well water? Answer: Yes, however, careful planning should be done in zoning so as not to demand more water than the well can deliver. Sustaining water pressure and volume is a crucial concern with wells.
Question: Can lakes or ponds be used as the water source? Answer: In most cases, yes. Submerged or self-priming centrifugal pumps can be installed and do work nicely.
Question: How do irrigation systems survive in the Midwest climate? Answer: The poly pipe used today will withstand many cycles of freezing and thawing. Winterization is included the first year of installation by Kortendick Hardware, Inc. Compressors are used to blow water out of irrigation lines. Winterization can be performed by the home owner or our service can be provided for a minimal charge.
Question: After a system is winterized, what is required to restart the system in the spring? Answer: The time clock will be in an OFF position during the winter months. To restart the system in spring, the time clock simply needs to be turned to the automatic setting and each zone should be checked for proper spray patterns.
Question: If the system is set to water automatically, what happens when it rains? Answer: An accessory device called a rain delay can be mounted on the roof of your house. If any moisture is detected by this device, the system is disabled until the moisture evaporates.
Question: Who will service my new irrigation system? Answer: We, at Kortendick Hardware, Inc., have personnel available for any needed repairs. Since irrigation systems are basically plumbing and low voltage devices, some repairs can be performed by the home owner. We are also open seven days a week for parts, supplies, and assistance.
Question: How much does a system cost? Answer: That's very difficult to answer because of the many variables at each site such as soil conditions, water source, pressure, landscaping, grade, sun or shade dominance, etc. Call or use our convenient contact form to obtain a free estimate.
Question: How satisfied are your previous customers with their irrigation systems and service? Answer: Kortendick Hardware, Inc. customers provide their own testimonials: Testimonials "Our system has served us very well and I definitely recommend it, particularly with a new lawn. With both of us working, it would have been impossible to keep the seeded areas watered properly and moving sprinklers would have been a mess. Any service calls were handled promptly and courteously." |
